The Urban Women's Center provides training and support to Mercer County women in an effort to facilitate lifestyle changes that will lead to greater personal and familial stability and consistent economic self-sufficiency.

Training & Advocacy

Services incorporate assessment, advocacy, and continued coaching. Clients receive training and instruction on how to strategize for effective job search, prepare a résumé and cover letter, prepare for interviews, and maintain employment. "On the job success skills" training includes conduct and attitude assessment, money-management, and professional bearing. Coaching is provided for both traditional and online job search activities and interview de-briefings.

Job Fairs and Employment Leads

In addition to employment readiness training, the center takes clients to job fairs, develops and provides employment leads, participates in appropriate county employment recruiting activities and coordinates with employment agencies to identify appropriate job opportunities. The program utilizes the WNJPin website as well as other online employment access points.

Special Workshops

Workshop topics include: non-traditional careers for women; domestic violence; "gangs 101;" the effects of tobacco use; breast / uterine cancer; S.T.D.'s; immunizations and child health issues; and, basic first aid.
